GENERAL LABEL CHECKLIST
Information to gather
Net quantity
Declare the amount by volume, weight/mass, length, or number using the appropriate units.
Responsible business
Name and identifiable address of the manufacturer, distributor, or packer.
Origin
State the country of origin.
Ingredients
Use accepted names, list in decreasing order, and include additives where applicable.
Dates and traceability
Include the applicable expiry/best-before date and a unique batch code.
Use and safety
Add handling, storage, instructions for use, and precautionary statements where relevant.
Language
Required label information must be in English, even when other languages are also shown.
Food and beverage products
The Bureau of Standards Jamaica identifies JS CRS 5 for pre-packaged foods and JS 350 for pre-packaged goods. Product-specific standards may also apply—for example, the Bureau lists a standard for packaged natural coconut water. The Ministry of Health & Wellness states that registration, licensing, importation, sale, and distribution can also fall under the Food and Drugs framework.
